AM - 8 miles.

PM - 3 miles w/ Andrea...

In her defense, we have a lot of shoes, and she's only been consistently running for 3.5 months... it takes some time to get in the habit of packing a matching pair.

Or maybe the Kinvara/Peregrine combo is the ideal way to dominate runs at the horsepark?

Made a chart...

Seems like a big dropff, but I'm guessing I ran well under 2000 miles per year in the 4-5 years before I starting keeping this log, so it's all relative.

AM - 9 miles on the Pipeline trail (again!).

AM/PM - Hiked Pfeifferhorn (3700'). Rallied after Joe threw down the gauntlet... if we're going to lose photo week, we're going down swinging...

AM - 10 miles on the Wasatch Crest Trail w/ Andrea.

Somehow this is the first time we've run on this trail, which hangs just below the PC/BCC ridge at ~9700'.  It is fantastic - smooth trail, great scenery.

PM - 5 miles.

AM - 15 miles. First 7 w/ Andrea on the BST, then jogged home. Struggled on the second half, couldn't even break 8:30 pace despite the favorable profile.

AM - 7 miles. Group run on the Spray River loop trail.

Overcast morning (would be a theme for the week). Checked out Bow River Falls and Vermillion Lakes.

PM1 - Hiked up Tunnel Mountain (~2.5 miles, 1000'). Perfect timing as the clouds finally parted and we got some great views of Banff.

PM2 - 4 miles. Solo run on the Hoodoos trail in the opposite direction as yesterday. Got my mandatory trip/fall/yardsale out of the way.

PM3 - Discovered Rock Creek Cider.

AM - 20 mile hike/run from Sunshine to Assiniboine Lodge, featuring unbelievable wildflowers and a couple intense rain storms. We spent the next 2 nights in the Naiset Huts near Lake Magog and Mt Assiniboine. This was the highlight of the trip and something I would definitely want to do again. Allie gave a few more details.

It took ~6:50 to get out to Assiniboine (we only ran ~5 miles of the trail). Made it there just in time to be greeted by Claude, change into semi-dry clothes, and get ready for "tea time."

AM - 20 mile run/hike from Assiniboine to Sunshine, back the way we came, in 4:29:45. We ran about 15 miles of the trail and it was downright FUN.

PM - Wandered around at Moraine Lake. Spent the night in Lake Louise.

Drove up the Icefields Parkway to Jasper, stopping at Bow Lake, Columbia Icefields Centre, and Athabasca Falls.

AM - 13 miles. Group run on the nordic trails to the east of Jasper, around a bunch of Lacs/Lucs/Lakes. James and I ran back to the house from there along the Athabasca River.

PM1 - Strolled around at the Maligne Canyon waterfalls / bridges.

PM2 - 5 miles. Ran up to Cabin Lake and back. The water at the lake was perfectly still and I caught a great reflection of the mountains.

PM3 - Epic canoeing on Lac Beauvert. We learned all about the voyagers.

This is the day we were supposed to run the Jasper Skyline Trail, but the area was off-limits due to a forest fire earlier in the week. Too bad Thank god, I was totally prepared un-prepared for a 30 mile mountain run!

AM - 13 miles. Ran up to Pyramid Lake solo to meet the rest of the crew, then ran back to Jasper with James and Kevin. On the way up I heard a rustle in the bushes and sure enough, about 25 feet to my right was a grizzly bear walking in my direction. Adrenaline surge! Fortunately, he wanted nothing to do with me. We figured the chances of seeing TWO bears in the same run was low, so we ran back to town on the same trail (#15)... and saw three gigantic caribou! It was pretty sweet.

PM - Hiked above the Mt Edith Cavell meadows (~5 miles, 1700').

Drove all the way back down to Canmore, stopping at Tangle Falls, Peyto Lake, and a random spot setup by the Royal Canadian Mounted d-bag Police for a quick demerit.

PM - 6 miles w/ Andrea. Started at Stinson Beach and ran up the Dipsea / Steep Ravine trails, then down on the Matt Davis trail. There must be hundreds of miles of trails around Mt Tam, and they are all challenging! The last mile of this run dropped 1200'... it took me 18 minutes!

Lots of scenic leisure walking today... Muir Beach, Stinson Beach, Muir Woods*, Sausalito, Baker Beach.

*Muir Woods is cool if you get the chance to visit... but the Redwood parks in the South Bay are just as good, and have a fraction of the people.

AM - 6 miles w/ Andrea on the trails / fire roads looping around the perimeter of China Camp State Park. We drove up to Marin County again and just headed north until we were past the fog and in the sunshine.

Wandered around the Marin Headlands in the afternoon.

AM - 5 miles in Golden Gate Park.

PM - 4 miles w/ Andrea on the trails at Pillar Point Bluff, just north of Half Moon Bay.

Headed south today because the SF Marathon was happening and the race blocks off the northern side of the peninsula. Got a later start in hopes that the fog would clear a little (it did). Took a leisure stroll at Devil's Slide (where saw a bunch of Humpback whales) and had lunch on a little outcrop above Gray Whale Cove (no whales there).

AM - 6 miles on the Stroudwater trail in Portland, Maine. Took a redeye flight and had a little time to kill waiting for some other friends to arrive, so I was able to stash my bag and get out for an hour on a really nice trail next to the jetport.

Drove up to Boothbay Harbor and spent a beautiful evening out on a boat cruise. Around midnight Andrea finally rolled in from China!
