Big race today - the Merkel Wedding Mile on Southport Island in Maine. After hitting snooze for an hour, I finally dragged myself out of bed about 8 minutes before the start (not exaggerating). We had about 30 runners line up to run the "mile" loop. Toni (wearing my teva sandals) took it out quick, but only made it a tenth of a mile before collapsing on the side of the road (the boat cruise was a fun night). It was down to Big Cat Brett and I after a quarter. I put some distance on him by halfway, knowing that I couldn't let it come down to a kick... his hair is longer than mine, a huge advantage over the last 100 meters. The watch buzzed as I came through the mile (5:43) but the finish was still far away (stupid surprise 2K races!). I was able to hold on for another minute and break the tape for my first win of the season!

I am slighty embarrassed to say this, but I was absolutely gassed by the end...  my lungs were burning for a good 15 minutes. Andrea and I ran another 4 miles after the race. We figured we should cool down since we completely missed warming up.

PM - 3 miles. Wanted to run the full 4.6 miles to the lighthouse and back, but my legs were wrecked from the morning.

The #LukeandAnneLongRun wedding was perfection.

Congrats on your first win of the season.

So where do you call "Home" these days?

Every time I read your blog, you are either in a different part of the USA, or are in some other country.

Way to go Jake! Although I refuse to believe you were gassed unless you were carrying an anvil or a piano.

Ann and I spent $33.64 on our wedding. No cruise. We did have a Polka band though.

Just when I think your list of running accomplishments can't be topped...boom! If this isn't the pinnacle, I'm not sure what could be.

There, fixed my typo.

Oh wait..just saw the 1.21. Maybe you were gassed.

win!

a mile that morphs into a 2k is probably one of the most difficult distances out there.

How long are you in Maine?

From Jake K on Mon, Aug 03, 2015 at 17:12:29 from 70.192.207.11

Halfway home right now, Jason. What a beautiful weekend in Maine. Probably a little warm for B2B, but perfect for what we were doing :-)

Mark - SLC is still the home base. These past few months have been a lot of travel... mostly for fun, and a bit for work. I'm actually looking forward to staying local for the rest of August!

I was definitely gassed. And still sore two days later. I wish I was kidding. I really need to get myself back into decent shape before El Nino gets here.

Sounds fun. Is that a 2k PR?

From Jake K on Mon, Aug 03, 2015 at 22:55:17 from 70.208.14.225

If you count intermediate splits from longer races and workouts, this is probably close to making my list of top 2500 fastest 2Ks, and only about 80 seconds off my best performance. And that's without spikes, so it's fair to say I'm nearly in peak condition. Not as good as RAGNAR shape, but close.
