AM - 22 miles. Up early to watch the marathon, back to sleep for a couple hours, then drove up to Jeremy Ranch for the long run. Pretty much the same thing as last week but a few minutes faster. Out & back to the East Canyon road, grabbed my bottle and gel, then out & back to the Morgan Country gate. The hardest part about doing 22 this way is that you hit the end of the run at 21 miles, so you have to mentally get past the desire to stop and do one more 1/2 mile out & back. I do this on purpose to make myself suffer a bit :-)

Lots of fast looking (ie. skinny and scantily clad) runners out there this morning. Put down 12 oz of Gatorade and 1 gel during the run - I feel like my stomach is getting better at handling it... and I'm actually looking forward to the point in the run where I get some sugar!

How about Meb?! Good quotes from him on Letsrun's recap.

PM - 4 mile jog.

Watching the marathon this morning, reading your training blog, I realized that Americas chance at a medal for the Rio Marathon could be you!

I agree with C James

Maybe the Utah State Summer Olympics!

Nice run Jake. Thought about heading up there but just didn't.

I'm thinking some Fall after work runs up there. Yes?

I want to keep running up there until the snow prevents us from doing so! I've been up there so much this summer and I'm feeling super duper strong (especially on hills).

Great run this morning! I'm sure you were a little inspired by the early morning race :) I like your idea of that last .5 out and back, helps with mental toughness! I may have to try that.

Oh, I was wondering if you could get this out? I'd just post it, but I think you could get it out faster and more throughly than I could! My friend posted these codes for the Utah Marathon that make ALL the races only $10...a $10 marathon. Yup. That easy. And you can run on Team Fast Running Blog :) I signed myself up for the half (going to run it an easy recovery pace), then I'll meet my family for the 5K and walk/run with my kiddos and hubby. I hope you don't mind that I signed us all up under FRB team. If there are prizes that this will mess with (we aren't all that fast!) we can take ourselves off :) Anyway, here they are:

marathon- FAMILYMARATHON

half- FAMILYHALF

5K- FAMILY5K

bike- FAMILYBIKE

kids- FAMILYKIDS

Thanks Jake!

Jake, if you haven't read today's 'recommended read' on Letsrun by Canova, I'd suggest you skedaddle on over there: you'll enjoy his analysis of the Olympic marathon and I think you'll love his bit where he talks about going into a race at 90% and using it as a base for a race 4 months down the road. Interesting stuff.

Careful you don't overdo the workouts with the huge mileage; just sayin' - because I care:)

RAD - I saw those codes, and just figured it was $10 for the 5K, which is great. Does it really work for the half/full at that price??? If so, that is amazing... and it also means they must really have NO ONE signed up for this thing, either! And whoever paid $90 to sign up is going to be really mad when they find out about these codes.

Honestly I would have done the same long run whether USA had gone 1-2-3 or everyone dropped out :-)

BAM - I did check out that Canova interview. Good thoughts by him as always. Last week was a big week, with 4 days running something of substance, 5 if you count the long run yesterday... so I need to make sure I don't try and replicate that this week... just because I CAN do it doesn't mean I should. I'm thinking 2 workouts this week, and cutting out the long run b/c while I don't want to fully taper, I want to be somewhat fresh for the 1/2 marathon next weekend.

They at least worked for the half. I didn't try the full :) but, I only paid $10.84 to register for the half. Strangely enough, the fee for the 5K was more. I had to pay $11.03 for the 5K.
