AM - 5 miles. Passed the stair test yesterday so I was cleared by the boss for an easy run today. I'm still planning to take a few more days off, but its good to know that nothing is sore. I'm taking way more time off than I ever have in the past, but I don't want to jump back in too quick and risk any unnecessary setbacks. A few weeks ago I was selected for USATF's Athlete Development Program for the 25K Championship in May (essentially, that just means they'll cover my travel/hotel/food expenses). Its a nice little honor, and it makes that race even more important (the pressure to perform well goes up when you receive some freebies - gotta prove you deserve it!). So I've got 9.5 weeks until that race in Grand Rapids, and then another 6 weeks from that point until the Half Marathon Championship in Duluth. Plenty of time, and no need to rush things.

PM - Leisurely walk around SHP w/ Andrea.

Sounds like you've got your schedule down. Make sure you follow through with the ease and off time because I think your body is throwing out the little pre-signals it needs to heal. I don't know.... I am intuitive like that with myself so I am sure you are.

I am thinking about running the OC marathon in May. Have you heard anything about that course?

It looks like a great course... couple very small rolling hills, but for the most part very flat. Usually the weather is predictable that time of the year as well... you might get a warm day, but its unlikely you'll get a super hot or super cold morning.

Congratulations Jake you are so deserving of being selected.

For what it's worth I am 99.99% sure I ended up with an injury after TOU not because of the race itself, but because I tried to come back to quick. You are being smart and realistic and I admire that! (good job Andrea!)

Jake, do you know much about the Saucony mirage 3 (women's)? I'm looking to buy some. Maybe.

I put them on the first time last week - I'm really excited about them and requested a couple pairs. I was already a fan of the Mirage 2, and these are a significant upgrade. They are a bit softer and more flexible than the previous version - mainly due to changing how the flex grooves on the bottom of the shoe are cut. The upper now is made from that seamless flexfilm that they use in some of their racing shoes and the Kinvara 3, which I think really makes it mold to your foot better.

I think they make a great everyday / in-between shoe. A little more supportive than a flat/minimal shoe, but still very light and flexible.

Perfect. Thank you! I'm going to try them.

Would you say there is more support in them than the Kinvara? I have the new Kinvara, but I want something with a little more support. Not tons, but just enough.

From Jake K on Wed, Mar 06, 2013 at 15:58:56 from 155.100.226.191

Yes definitely more than the Kinvara

That's what I like them for as well... just a little bit extra support, but not overkill.

Good! I am really stoked to try them out then.
