AM - 9.5 miles, up to work. BORING run compared to the last week (although the rain sprinkles were a nice surprise). My legs are still locked into "mountain running at high altitude" pace. That's fine w/ me for now. I'm still on a total high from the trip. In the 5 full days we were gone, I logged about a hundred of the most wonderful miles I've ever run... approximately 11,000 vertical feet of climbing... pretty much all on trails, dirt roads, etc. Other than Bryce (8000 ft) we were between 9-11,000 feet for the entire trip. I love being up at high elevation. It was awesome to get in some fun hikes, too. A good vacation is one that you come back a little tired and weathered from. My weight dropped a little too much since last week so its time to get back on the eating all day at my desk bandwagon :-)

PM - 9.5 miles home. Symmetry.

Holy vertical! Post-vacation depression ughhh... Thinking about giving my notice at work 10 months earlier than planned :)

That doesn't even count the hiking. The loop we hiked yesterday, according to my watch, had 2600 feet of climbing.

I need another vacation. Good thing Jackson is on the agenda in just a few weeks.

Wow, awesome reports and pics Jake. You guys definitely know how to take a vacation. You did some incredible runs/hikes through some amazing scenery. Way to get after it.

Your trip down here though the southern part of the state looked awesome. You could come back to Bryce next weekend for the half?

It looks like you guys had a great time! Welcome back to fire country. So what's next, I know you are "breaking," but I figured you guys might make a showing at Des News.

From Jake K on Thu, Jul 05, 2012 at 17:08:33 from 155.100.226.54

Melody - I'd run Des News 10K if we were going to be in town... but we're going on vacation #2 (Tetons) that week! :-) So I'm just going to continue playing in the mountains for now. My "break" is exhausting so far!

Clyde - I'm not making that drive again anytime soon!

If the Bryce 1/2 had been over the past couple days, it would have been terrible with the smoke. The wind was blowing it into that valley were the race finishes and it was pooling down there. Yuck. Hopefully wildfire season will end soon.

I know the feeling. Every run has been a total drag since my last running/vacation/work trip.

Welcome back to the routine.

Come up and pace me in my race Saturday. I'll buy breakfast after.

From Jake K on Fri, Jul 06, 2012 at 08:43:01 from 155.100.226.54

I'm honored that you asked me to pace instead of the other guys in Park City - Ritz, Rupp, etc.

Let me see what we're doing this weekend... I do like running those round valley trails. I'll get back to you.
