AM - 12 miles on farm roads in Delta, CO. What Green River is to melons, Delta is to peaches.

PM - 10 miles in Ouray, CO... ran the perimeter trail and a couple extensions along the Uncompahgre River. I am beaming right now - what a fun run! If I had my camera with me, I never would have gotten anywhere. Barely beat the 9-minute guy as it was (lots of steep up and down). Never was more than a mile or so from town but this run had it all - meandering river, 360 mountain views, waterfalls, box canyons, bridge-tunnel-staircase, and all through the ice park. There was also a house built directly into a cliff (only seemingly accessible via some sort of outdoor converted mining elevator) that blew my mind and caused me to come to a complete stop. I'm going to stay in Ouray for the next couple days because I love it here. ANDREA CALL IN SICK AND DRIVE DOWN TONIGHT!

In-Between: I drove up to Owl Creek Pass on my way to Ouray and went for a hike up Courthouse Mountain. At only a bit over 12,000 feet, Courthouse is a midget around here. It was a fun, short hike with a surprise scrambling section at the end. [More photos: Courthouse Mountain]

See, Jake, if you sign up for Hardrock 100, you can run fully-supported for 30+ hrs through those mountains... sure beats a road 5k for me.

Jon, just curious... in the US, is Hardrock considered the most scenic 100-miler? I can't imagine anywhere more beautiful, mile for mile, outside of running one within Yosemite. I was thinking today that its a shame that everyone has to do a portion of it in the dark!

Jake- yeah, I don't think many people would disagree that Hardrock is the most scenic 100 miler. Bighorn has a good rep, as do some ultras in Oregon and California, but I think Hardrock would win the survey every time. The only place that might top it would be running across the Grand Canyon.

For people who don't get into HR (or can't do it in one day), there is Softrock- run the course in 2 or 3 days the week before the race after the course markings are up. Stay in hotels in Ouray and Telluride. And, like you said, you get to see the whole thing during the day. I might do it in the next few years.
