AM - 17 miles. LT Reps: 10 x 1 mile4:57, 4:57, 4:55, 4:56, 4:56, 4:56, 4:56, 4:56, 4:57, 4:59. Average = 4:56.5. Tempo loop. 3 up, 1 down.

I finally did the adult version of a mile repeat session. This wasn't as bad as I thought it might be. Main goal was to keep them all under 5 minutes. Had to stay focused on the last one to make that happen. I don't listen to a ton of rap music, but I will say that Ludacris and Nelly were excellent training partners during this workout.

Great regional XC meet this afternoon at Cottonwood Complex in the pouring rain. The Alta boys took Bingham (USA #18) to the wire. Bingham narrowly won, 34-42. No one predicted Alta would have a chance to win, or it would even be close... except Rob... and the team! And that's why they run cross country races outside instead of on the internet.

Solid workout! Tons of faster volume.

10 x mile whoa! great workout.

i can't believe you weren't listening to dot rotten.

From james (runmehappy) on Thu, Oct 10, 2013 at 11:31:30 from 67.136.8.202

That is a solid workout Jake for sure. I am jealous of the speed...and the box of shoes. I need to buy a couple new pair, but don't know what to get right now.

From Jason D on Thu, Oct 10, 2013 at 11:46:26 from 128.210.82.162

Adult version? I have named doubles after certain categories: regular or standard (6-9/4-7), big boy (or girl) (10/4-10/6) and "beast mode" (12/5-13+/6+). Surely this workout is closer to the beast mode side of things? How crazy do crazies go with LT 'peats? 12? More?

Oh, and very nice!

From Andrea on Thu, Oct 10, 2013 at 12:21:40 from 70.193.139.225

Wow. Talk about a confidence builder! Extra, extra, extra rest and recovery the next couple days.

I hope we (we=me) get to keep all the mens size 9 shoes!!

From james (runmehappy) on Thu, Oct 10, 2013 at 12:26:34 from 67.136.8.202

Wait, size nine? That is too convenient. Happy to take test "test" them if you need another opinion! :)

From RileyCook on Thu, Oct 10, 2013 at 13:08:02 from 132.3.57.81

I love it! I've been meaning to get my miles repeats to 8 reps. 10 is good stuff. Fantastic workout for your upcoming half.

From Jake K on Thu, Oct 10, 2013 at 13:29:18 from 67.177.11.154

James - did you ever fill this out? --> goo.gl/vrNyn

I can get you in a pair of these for a test drive over the next couple days and would love to get your feedback.

The funny thing with all these prototypes and test shoes is that I can never wear them, since I wear 11 and they never make samples that big. So I have like 50 pairs of shoes in the spare bedroom that I can't wear!

I needed to do 10 reps instead of the usual 6 so when Andrea's family asks why I'm not at the wedding this weekend, she has something interesting to tell them :-)

The real reason is that this is all part of the plan... as I get closer to CIM, I'll do less workouts, and spread them out more (2-3 recovery days between harder efforts). But the workouts will have more volume and the long runs will essentially be workouts. Blending my own training w/ the Canova philosophy. No more of the "3 moderately hard workouts in 5 days" approach. I'm at the point where I can step it up.

From Jake K on Thu, Oct 10, 2013 at 13:30:20 from 67.177.11.154

Jason - I figure its better for my reputation to get into adult workouts instead of adult films.

From Josh E on Thu, Oct 10, 2013 at 14:03:26 from 205.235.104.4

I wouldn't be so sure about that, size 11. But seriously - can you not give those shoes away?

From Jake K on Thu, Oct 10, 2013 at 14:06:50 from 67.177.11.154

The shoes we use for long-term testing go back to Saucony's lab for impact testing and wear pattern analysis.

The ones we use for short-term testing... I don't know. I can't make the decision, and no one with authority has decided yet. So I've been accumulating lots of shoes and boxes since the summer! If a runner/thief with size 9 feet broke into the condo... they'd be in heaven!

From james (runmehappy) on Thu, Oct 10, 2013 at 14:29:48 from 67.136.8.202

Jake, I would love to take them for a test drive. I will shoot you a private message on here with my phone number. I just filled out that form too.

From fiddy on Thu, Oct 10, 2013 at 16:43:21 from 155.101.96.145

what was the rest?

From Jake K on Thu, Oct 10, 2013 at 16:54:32 from 67.177.11.154

20 minutes of laying in someone's front yard :-)

Tempo loop is 1.3, and I like to start/finish at the same place for all of them for consistency. Thus right around 2 minutes brisk jogging. Way more rest than I'll get in a half-marathon, so obviously the times are to be taken with a grain of salt.

From Jake K on Thu, Oct 10, 2013 at 16:57:17 from 67.177.11.154

Also, for anyone who saw this post earlier... I took down the photo with the shoes, so if anyone like set it as their desktop or iphone background or something, I'd appreciate it if you'd delete it.

Fritz - I never said anything about BEING an adult :-)

From mike⇒nelson on Fri, Oct 11, 2013 at 21:58:23 from 98.202.168.196

I used to want to be like Jake when I grew up. Now I'm not so sure...

From CollinAnderson on Sat, Oct 12, 2013 at 13:55:24 from 70.196.202.67

That doesn't sound like a super fun workout! Speaking of shoe testing, are you ever going to get anything in the ballpark of 11s? Grad students can't afford shoes!

From Jake K on Sat, Oct 12, 2013 at 18:40:25 from 67.177.11.154

If by ballpark of 11s you mean 9 and 10, or women's 8, then yes. Otherwise, probably not.

From CollinAnderson on Sat, Oct 12, 2013 at 18:41:04 from 70.208.5.37

Bummer! Oh well!
