AM - 12 miles. 4 mile LT Tempo in 19:44 (4:56/mi avg). Splits - 4:51, 4:58, 4:58, 4:56. Tempo loop. 4 up/down. Felt a little tired from the last couple days, so I started off quick by design to get myself focused right away. Target range was 19:40-20:00. Anything faster would be too hard of an effort. My 5K split was ~15:16, so not far off what I was running all-out a couple weeks ago. You'd think I can finally get this 15:XX monkey off my back now, right? I'll have a good opportunity at the Dart Challenge next weekend (fast, flat course, sign up!).

PM - 6 miles w/ Andrea (bike).

You are getting in some great speed. I think you should target a 19:xx at the Alta Peruvian.

Corbin was the man back when I was running CC in high school. I am off for a vacation so I won't be witnessing you break 15 minutes there.

If I ever race the Alta 8K, feel free to come shatter whatever is left of my femurs with a baseball bat.

Now, if I am successful in turning the race into the Alta Mile instead of having it completely go away after this year, then I'll be chasing the 3:40 mile that has eluded me all these years :-)

I'm not anti-Alta Peruvian, by the way, I think its such a unique event and I'll definitely be up there for the BBQ and to spend the night. I've just heard stories about how it beats you up pretty bad if you really run it hard.

Another solid workout this morning. I'd say you are ready for a some PRs in the next couple weeks. You better break 15, at least!!

From Rachelle on Thu, Aug 08, 2013 at 10:48:37 from 159.212.71.69

Running 4 miles in under 20 min is just really hard for me to wrap my head around. Another great deposit into the workout account.

From Josh E on Thu, Aug 08, 2013 at 10:53:54 from 205.235.104.4

I am also staying and I am really looking forward to it. I should PR in the mile almost five times. I've never broken 5. Hopefully the beer numbs the pain a bit.

Wanted to call Corbin what the narrator calls Ron Burgundy right before he is introduced but that may not be family-safe.

Nice workout again Jake. 4 miles at HM (I think it will be soon for you) pace is not easy. Keep up the great work.

From SlowJoe on Thu, Aug 08, 2013 at 18:23:07 from 66.69.93.8

daaaang.

From Christie on Thu, Aug 08, 2013 at 19:05:56 from 66.111.126.9

Impressed... as usual :) I am with Rachelle on grasping 4 miles under 20min's! Good stuff.

From fiddy on Thu, Aug 08, 2013 at 20:17:53 from 155.101.96.138

Your mile repeats are the same pace as your 4 mile run. Am I missing something? Was this workout ridiculously hard?

From Jake K on Thu, Aug 08, 2013 at 20:43:10 from 67.177.11.154

The mile reps were on average a couple seconds faster. Tuesday was practice for today :-)

I'm glad its not the other way around; ideally the sustained tempo is the more impressive of the two workouts as it translates better towards what I'll be able to do in races. This was one of those "you can't fake it" workouts that I wanted to get a sense of where I was at. Feeling pretty good right now.

From RileyCook on Thu, Aug 08, 2013 at 20:59:07 from 174.52.234.49

Very solid!

From Jason D on Thu, Aug 08, 2013 at 21:37:03 from 166.137.88.151

^^^. Yes. Inquiring minds want to know. I think my math from the other day was 4:52/4:53. But I study English.

From Jason D on Thu, Aug 08, 2013 at 21:41:53 from 166.137.88.168

Sorry. I'm on delay. That was in response to James. I love the you can't fake it workouts, but it begs the question. What workouts can you fake? I need a 1-2 weeks of those :)

From Andrea on Thu, Aug 08, 2013 at 22:09:48 from 67.177.11.154

My favorite fake it workouts are 6 x 800 to predict marathon time or 8 x 200 to predict 5k.

From seeaprilrun on Fri, Aug 09, 2013 at 00:26:51 from 205.172.12.210

I think I like fake it workouts, gives a great false sense of confidence!

Wow. Jeez.
