AM - 11.5 miles up to work. Mixed in a little fartlek workout. After ~20 minutes of easy running, I did 1-2-3-2-1-2-3-2-1-1-1-1 minute efforts with 1 minute recovery (20 minutes total of faster running). Not sure of the pace... maybe like 10Kish effort? The first couple reps were flat (around SHP) and the rest were uphill. A good start to the week. Very cool-looking (and gigantic) full moon this morning.

PM - 7.8 miles. Met Andrea and we meandered through Sugar House neighborhoods.

Smart idea to do the harder efforts this AM. Good way to stay warm. It finally feels like winter out there.

Yeah it definitely was colder this morning but some uphill efforts always get the body heated up pretty good!

Nice job with the quicker paces!

Your mileage is nuts. So are the Bolder Boulder and Duluth races the key ones this year?

From Jake K on Mon, Jan 09, 2012 at 19:27:19 from 155.100.226.54

The 1/2 champs in Duluth will definitely be the big one for the spring. Part of me is torn and wants to run an early spring marathon b/c I'm in really good shape, and we're having the driest winter in the history of mankind... so the early spring plans might change a bit... we'll see. I wish the SLC Marathon could get their act together and actually make it a competitive, well organized race. I'm giving winter 3-4 more weeks to try and impress me w/ something worth skiing on, then I'll reevaluate my plans :-)

Boston, Boston, Boston! You do realize you are capable of placing incredibly high there right........just saying.

Don't worry the snow will be here. It is just waiting for me to be able to ski :)

From Jake K on Tue, Jan 10, 2012 at 12:15:52 from 155.100.226.54

I know, I know, Rachelle... I try not to think about Boston b/c it gets me all FIRED UP! :-) Its definitely a possibility, though. I've been going back and forth on it every day lately. Luckily I have friends who live there, so I can play the "wait and see" game and not have to worry too much about travel logistics, so if I decided to go for it, that wouldn't be a problem.
