AM - 12 miles. Ocotillo + grass park loops. Walked for a while before I started slowly shuffling, and eventually picked up the pace all the way to what might be considered "jogging". It took about 5-6 miles to get all the kinks out, and then I started to feel normal again. Nice to be out in the sunshine. Back to SLC later today.

PM - 4 slow miles in the smog.

I hope that 12 miler took you 2 hours today. :) Recover, recover, recover! I'm sure you feel great but remember that you put your body through a lot yesterday. I know that you already know all of this but it never hurts to hear it a couple million times!

So hard to not want to run all day long when your in nice weather.

Thanks Rachelle! Jake just rolls his eyes every time I say anything about recovering :)

I'm definitely very serious about making sure I fully bounce back from this... In 12 days ill be doing my 16 mile simulator, so there can't be any residual fatigue. My main priority today was getting all the aches and tight spots to go away. several days of 8-9 minute pace jogging, and I'll be back to 100%. Obviously, only one more day between now and May really matters, and that is march 2 :-)

Nicely put, Jake. You have the self control to hold back enough until you have fully recovered. That is the main reason I chose not to race on Sat. I have zero self control and would probably dig myself into a hole.

March 2 will be a great day for you! Arizona has always been GOOD to you- or maybe it's the other way around! Are you putting bottles/nutrition out?

I need to talk to Hyrum... I don't think they have the resources to put bottles out there for me, but as long as its OK w/ him, Andrea is going to hit a few spots on the course for me... and maybe I'd even have her leave some bottles at the early aid stations. That's one of the logistics left to figure out.

The timing of this one was really good... mentally, it broke up the training into almost 2 equal cycles. And even though I knew I was fit, its nice to get a very tangible reminder of that :-)

They told me I could put stuff out, but they were not responsible getting it there or for other people stealing it. LOL - would someone actually do that? I've never done that before, so maybe I'll just stick to the awkward grab a cup and go method.

That's good to know - I hadn't asked him yet. Honestly I can't imagine it would be an issue for the station people... if they just let my bottle sit on the first table, I promise I'll be the first one by to grab it and get it out of their way :-)

I think that is probably what I'll do (and by "I"... I mean my lovely Andrea will help me get those bottles out there)

It's nice to know you will have the luxury of coming through first - and you have a first class assistant too. I wouldn't expect it any other way.

I should have said "near the front" :-)

You never know who might show up!
