AM - 6.1 miles. Easy run from home. This is a scheduled lower mileage week. I don't feel like I need it right now, but unfortunately I'm smart enough to know that gains are made in recovery, and I need to give my body a chance to absorb the work I've done over the last month. Boston is 12 weeks from now, so its a good time to back off a bit and let the batteries get fully charged for the first cycle of marathon training. This week will be a major test for me mentally - probably a lot harder than just banging out 20+ mile days.

PM - 8.5 miles. Warmed up one mile and then went straight into a 5 mile MP tempo on a nice, flat, no-traffic loop close to home that I measured out yesterday that will now be known as the Winder Loop. Its just over a mile and perfect for shorter tempos. Splits were 5:18, 5:20, 5:18, 5:13, 5:05. Every lap the snow seemed to be coming down harder, and that made it was pretty fun! Cooled down 2.5 miles back home. For whatever reason, I really enjoyed this run. I think its just that I know I'm starting to gear up for another marathon again, and that makes me excited.

Your mind must work differently than mine. I find it incredibly easy to slack off.

... coming from the guy w/ the 2:17 PR :-) Yeah you're a total slacker!

Even one 150 mile week, let alone a month of it, would probably take me a week to recover from and I would be injured for sure. :) Enjoy the relatively low mile week of recovery.

You should spend your extra time eating all that brocoli so you can finally use your icecream maker. :)

Rachelle I think the frozen vegetable surplus has finally dwindled down enough to make that happen this week!

I had a day where i ran .9 miles more than you, and now i know the real reason haha. I fear for any person (or fast creature) that goes against you after this recovery week. You are going to feel unstoppable

2 seconds too late on that comment, Cam! :-) You didn't really think I was going to take the afternoon off in this nice snowstorm, did you?

From Cam on Mon, Jan 23, 2012 at 20:06:34 from 174.52.138.46

hahaha, yes it was comically perfect timing. crazy good tempo btw.

Enjoy the rest, you deserve it.

Nice workout today. Just think about how much more skiing you can do with a down week. Hopefully, you have enough snow still! I had to cancel our school ski trip today because the rain has turned everything into a slushy mess of ice.

From Jake K on Tue, Jan 24, 2012 at 10:27:37 from 155.100.226.54

Ice/slush is no fun! Bummer you had to cancel the trip.

Great job with the tempo Jake!! That is pretty impressive considering the slushy conditions yesterday.
