AM - 7.1 miles. Ran the first 4 miles easy, then did 11 x 30 seconds @ 5K pace with 60-90 seconds between efforts. I was shooting for ~8 reps, but completely lost count of how many I'd done about halfway through. It was too early in the day for math.

The first "big" marathon (other than the OT) of the year was today (or yesterday, or whatever day it is over there) in Dubai. Four guys you've probably never heard of ran 2:04. Yowzers. I liked this quote from Letsrun, about the winner: "From 39km to 42km, the guy ran an 8:29 split. That's 9:03 3,200 pace. Think about that for a minute."

PM - 3 miles shakeout. Headed to the Brad Paisley concert now.

Offer still stands - if anyone wants to head up to Alta for some snow fun tomorrow afternoon (~1:30PM), let me know.

ha ha that is funny! That happens to me everytime I run laps around the track.

Better to find out I did 11 rather than 5 :-)

I'm trying not to think about it. I don't want to feel any slower than I already am. How in the bleep do you get those kind of genetics? Tell me..

From Jake K on Fri, Jan 27, 2012 at 17:23:56 from 155.100.226.54

Its the perfect storm of genetic ability plus a lifestyle and culture of really, really hard training. Throw a ton of $$$ out there for whoever crosses the line first, and this is what you get. Marathoning has changed so much in the last couple years. I was looking up old Boston results yesterday - you think we'll ever see a 2:10+ win the race again? No way. The bar has been raised - the africans attack the marathon like its a 10K.

We'd love to head up to Alta tomorrow but we have too much going on tomorrow. Ann is working tonight, race tomorrow, Abby is going to a "sports day" at Westminster College... See you in the morning.

I find it interesting how dominant the Kenyans were last year, and now the Ethiopians start with a bang.

Amazing.

I remember thinking I would be near 50 before I saw 2 hours broken, now I'm thinking within 5 years we'll see it done.

I always forget my reps if I'm running 8 or more!

Have fun at Alta. You can count me in in March :)
