AM - 11.5 miles up to work. Starting to get a little sick, felt it coming on yesterday. Might as well just get all this stuff out of the way at once.

PM - 4.5 miles down to SHP. Met Andrea along the way.

Lots of good cross / indoor track action this weekend - USA XC Championships (webcast on Runnerspace... women's 8K at noon, men's 12K at 12:45) and New Balance Grand Prix (webcast on ESPN3... the mile/2mi/3K start at 4:40pm, Utah time).

Ahh, hope it's one of those short-lived bugs. Hopefully you'll be rid of the virus and the quad thing by the start of next week and can get in a good block of workouts before taper time.

My theory is that my body knows it can't get sick when I'm really training... but since I've only run faster than 8 minute pace once in the past 2 weeks, now it think we're in the off-season and its allowed to let my immune system take a break. I'm sure it won't affect me much... I'll sleep it off this weekend :-)

It's like when I hurt my foot on my one day off.

The lesson is, never take days off, and never take it easy, or you'll just get hurt/sick.

Excellent lesson. I'm going to print this out and frame it.

Joe! Don't encourage him!!!

Andrea, you were quoted just a few days ago saying that Mr. Joe himself was training smarter than any other person on the blog. Isn't he someone I should therefore be taking advice from? :-)

I woke up with a cold this morning too and kind of felt the same way about it. Might as well just get it out of the way now. :)

Rest & extra ice cream (for the sore throat of course) will hopefully do the trick.

Jake, just mentioned on Riley's blog about the British Miler's Club site. If you've got nothing to do - there's weeks of quality reading going back to the Coe era: 40 page booklets every quarter or so - full of top quality stuff from 800m - marathon. Interviews, training, graphs. Must read stuff. Best stuff I've read in years. Makes LetsRun look like a hobby jogger site.

When you go to the site , the booklets are in the BMC NEWS Section.

Spring 2009 issue has a great article on rest and recovery. Hope you feel better soon.

Get well soon.

Wow, that is a goldmine. This is seriously like Christmas for me. I love reading this kind of stuff. Occasionally I'll peruse the old Sports Illustrated Vault, from the days when they used to cover distance running. But these BMC archives blow everything else away. I'm never going to have to buy a book for my kindle again.

The first article I pulled up was "Have we gone soft?" (Spring 1989) where Derek Parker rips UK runners for wearing waterproof rain gear!!!

Andrea is going to Brazil in 2 weeks. I'm going to read every single issue while she's out of the country!

We better tell Rob Murphy about this. His wife and kids might not be happy about it, though :-)

I was going to email him but I thought as it was on your blog he'd see it. There's great stuff about coaching school kids. I've been reading it all day. I don't know who the other coaches are on the site but perhaps you should give them the nod. It really is, as you say, a goldmine.
