AM - 12 miles. Ran from where we are staying in West Sedona to the Vultee Arch road. It was a pretty awesome run - I would describe it as taking the Jeremy Ranch road, and plopping it down in the middle of Zion National Park. Rolling hills and stunning scenery the whole way.

I didn't take a camera (I'm not an ultra-runner!)... but here's what it looked like, thanks to google images...

PM - 6 miles. Ran to the Sedona high school (which is one of the nicest sports complexes I've ever been to).  Andrea biked along w/ me for the 3.5 miles over there... then I did 10 x 200m in 31.9 seconds average. That's faster than I've been hitting the 200s lately, and its at the end of a couple more big weeks, so a good sign.

During the day we went hiking for a few hours, then went on a nice leisurely bike ride. Fun day... I took a ton of good pictures which I'll put up in a day or two. Really enjoying Sedona so far.

Andrea took some photos while I was running at the track... pretty nice setting, huh?

Another reason why I love the desert.

I'm so jealous that you are in Arizona. It is my favorite place in the world! I love the desert, too. It's perfect there this time of year.

What's wrong with being an ultrarunner who carries cameras? I did today!

From Rob Murphy on Sat, Feb 11, 2012 at 15:30:21 from 76.27.122.13

I think it's because cameras are extra weight. Fast guys like Jake care about that.

From Jon on Sat, Feb 11, 2012 at 15:42:51 from 98.71.181.5

Extra weight in training just makes you stronger...

From Jake K on Sat, Feb 11, 2012 at 15:59:38 from 12.44.144.104

Jon, I never said there was anything "wrong" with having a camera - I was merely pointing out that the reason I didn't have one w/ me was due to the fact that I am a road guy :-) And yes, I'm going to start training w/ a weighted vest, especially for downhill runs! See how much my knees can handle.

From Rob Murphy on Sat, Feb 11, 2012 at 16:02:44 from 76.27.122.13

Weighted vest?

I'm thinking something that might screw up your biomechanics and lead to an injury. Maybe not though with the weight being evenly distributed.

From Jon on Sat, Feb 11, 2012 at 16:08:15 from 98.71.181.5

Start with 50 lbs, and work up from there. St. George marathon won't have anything on you.

From SlowJoe on Sat, Feb 11, 2012 at 16:08:33 from 74.195.74.62

Yes, a heavy weighted vest and maybe replace the insoles with a few rolls of quarters in each shoe. That's the ticket.

From Jake K on Sat, Feb 11, 2012 at 16:23:54 from 12.44.144.104

Since Andrea is hurt, I'll just start carrying her on my shoulders. That way she'll get to experience the joy of 140 mile weeks.

Beautiful. Enjoy not having to wear 50 layers!

Met a guy at the 10k today named Billy Lillyman who just moved here from Columbus Ohio. He's new on the blog if you want to give him a welcome.

I told him we would include him in our rain deer games.

From Burt on Sat, Feb 11, 2012 at 22:21:16 from 72.223.93.158

I'm going to welcome him to the blog because that's the coolest name EVER!

Love Sedona. Been there once and golf a nice course...no running. Really stunning in every direction. I'm jealous- wish I was there and I'm guessing the weather was awesome because it was 74F here at my house in STG today.

From Jake K on Sat, Feb 11, 2012 at 22:37:00 from 12.44.144.104

Jon - I put up some track running pics, that's the place we take the camera :-)

Rob - I'll give him a welcome. Nice to have another guy join the group.

Clyde - it was perfect here today... shirtless in February, and we ate dinner outside. Can't beat that.

I love Sedona. Have a great trip and enjoy running in such a beautiful place.
