AM - 15.5 miles up to work via the Tanner Park death loop. Started really slow, but started to feel pretty good in the last 1/3 of the run.

PM - 8.5 miles home. Andrea met me for the last couple.

FYI - that BBC Olympic 1500m video I mentioned last week - its fantastic and I highly recommend it. The kind of TV that no American network would ever produce because no one in this country would bother taking the time to learn a little bit about Cerutty and Lydiard. I especially enjoyed the segment on Seb Coe.

Death loop?

Nice job catching up on the miles. We must have almost crossed paths several times. Did you notice the McDonalds on 33rd is finished? Now you can conveniently stop for an egg mcmuffin during a modified death loop run.

Nice short run to work. Got something longer planned for tonight? :) Hope you're feeling better.

Or get some cross-training in the playplace - I'm assuming they put in a play area? I've been avoiding 3300S the past couple weeks as they've been paving it.

Rachelle the "death loop" is actually a really nice run. Especially in the mornings - you get up on the bench on Parley's Trail and have amazing views of the valley, the salt lake, etc. BUT - its very hilly and you run into a fierce canyon headwind for a good portion; it earned the death loop nickname over the winter/spring on the days that we would run it after a hard workout the day before. We'd be DRAGGING.

The distance varies but here's the approximate elevation profile for the run - http://goo.gl/zw58V I think it comes out to 12-1300 feet of climbing.

Bam - I'll try to get in some mileage later :-)

That is insane! You must be feeling better because you survived. :)

Its my favorite run in the winter when its dark out because you get up above all the city lights. Its very cool.

I figured if I ran myself into a big enough calorie deficit this morning, my stomach would realize it has no choice but to start cooperating and let me eat a lot again!! :-)

I watched the 1500 BBC program you recommended - it was indeed quite good. Some of that footage on Seb Coe comes from a different program just about his training with his father. I think you can you-tube the show - it is in 4 or 5 parts. Even more in-depth on his training.

Yeah they just scratched the surface on Coe and his father. Its very interesting stuff. He is a beautiful runner to watch - smooth and light - but with devastating finishing speed. "The Perfect Distance" is a great book on the Coe/Ovett rivalry... I feel like I need to give it a re-read w/ the Olympics being in London this year.

Here is the video series to google for you tube -

Sebastian Coe - Born to Run - Part 1.flv

Great stuff. I idolized him when I was young runner as I was entering high school.

Thanks Bret! I'm looking forward to watching that.

Its kind of sad but I would guess the current generation of runners have no idea who guys like Seb Coe are, other than maybe hearing that he has something to do w/ organizing the upcoming olympics. Heck, I would say most don't even remember Hicham El Geurrouj!

Nice. Tanner park to Parley's trail truly is a death loop. I live right by there and refuse to run it. Looks like you defied the odds and lived to run another day. :)
