AM - 5 miles. Soft surface loops at the horsepark. Hammy feels like its coming around. No need to rush it, but I'm optimistic that I won't even remember what I did to it in a few more days.

Just for fun, here's my average paces for my last seven days of running - 8:30, 8:58, 8:46, 8:58, 8:47, 8:38, 8:01. I can't even blame Andrea, because I keep jogging when she has been taking her Gallo-walk breaks :-)

PM - 7 miles, back at the horsepark. Not quite a brisk pace, but maybe as Kevin would say - a crisp pace. Best I've felt in the past couple days, in terms of not feeling like I am doing any damage at all to the hamstring. Thankful for that - even though I kinda hated taking this week so easy, it was worth it. Sorry Andrea for being a basketcase during eight days of no double runs.

Smart recovery running Jake!

From Carina on Sat, Sep 22, 2012 at 10:41:06 from 204.15.86.83

I love how smart you are recovering, thank you so much for posting these times, it gives me confidence to run slower :)

From Jake K on Sat, Sep 22, 2012 at 11:05:14 from 67.177.11.154

I should post my paces more, but the truth is that I don't really even think about it most of the time. I just delete the runs off my watch as soon as I finish. I do run easy a lot though. A big part of the reason I can stay healthy while running high volume.

Someday I'll break that 8 minute barrier on a run again :-)

Did you record those split times using a sundial?

From Rob Murphy on Sat, Sep 22, 2012 at 11:27:23 from 24.10.249.165

I used to have a coach who was a bit of a smart a** and would say that he was going to have to start using a calendar rather than a stopwatch to time our intervals when he didn't like our split times.

From JulieC on Sat, Sep 22, 2012 at 12:40:30 from 70.103.189.14

Jake awesome splits. Recovering smart. Smiley face.

I mean APs

From JulieC on Sat, Sep 22, 2012 at 12:43:55 from 70.103.189.14

Jake any advice on why I don't engage my glutes while running? I wrote about it in ny long post yesterday. It is three quarters the way down the report.

From Fritz on Sat, Sep 22, 2012 at 12:55:52 from 65.100.192.74

I am almost more impressed with this week of running than I am of your 140+ weeks. :) We all know you can do those in your sleep so it's impressive to see you scale it back - albeit it for a week - and run like the common folk. Nice job!

From Andrea on Sat, Sep 22, 2012 at 12:58:08 from 67.177.11.154

JulieC - check out this article http://runningtimes.com/Print.aspx?articleID=26959

+1 for Fritz's comment.

From Jake K on Sat, Sep 22, 2012 at 13:01:56 from 67.177.11.154

Julie I did mean to respond to you about that... but Andrea's link is probably better than anything I could say anyways.

Thanks for the good wishes on my negative mileage week. This has been the most disciplined week of running I've ever done:-)

I'm cracking up about that stopwatch/calendar comment, Rob.

From Jake K on Sat, Sep 22, 2012 at 13:04:41 from 67.177.11.154

I haven't had a week under 60 miles in about a year, and haven't had a week under 50 miles in about 2 years... so I figured now is the time if I'm going to make a hard charge at some fast races this fall.

From Jake K on Sat, Sep 22, 2012 at 13:08:11 from 67.177.11.154

Also, I'm working on creating Diet Mountain Dew Ice Cream right now, so its not like I even have time to run :-)

From Bam on Sat, Sep 22, 2012 at 13:20:19 from 89.204.253.182

+ 1 more for Fritz's comment.

From JulieC on Sat, Sep 22, 2012 at 13:34:05 from 70.103.189.14

Andrea and Jake. I can't type fast enough to tell you my utter thanlks for this article. It is exactly my problem. Unengaged glutes have caused all my injuries. I have noticed this problem for a while but didny realize it contributed to my pf!,, wow. I am so thankful for this read you guys. It may have just saved my running literally!

From DaleG on Sat, Sep 22, 2012 at 13:59:28 from 98.202.43.67

Jake, thanks for posting your average paces for the last seven days. It's encouraging when elite runners post stuff like that. I don't know if it's just me, but I always think you're running fast all the time.

From Jake K on Sat, Sep 22, 2012 at 14:42:01 from 67.177.11.154

I always tell everyone that I run slow on my easy days... no one believe me though! :-) This week, for obvious reasons, it has been taken to the extreme. But there have been plenty of mornings where Allie and Andrea drop me early and it takes me a good mile or more to catch back up to them.

From SlowJoe on Sat, Sep 22, 2012 at 16:22:47 from 69.131.141.92

I'll send you a "couch to 5K" plan I found in Runner's World. You'll be sub-8 in no time.

From Rachelle on Sat, Sep 22, 2012 at 21:22:34 from 76.8.202.193

I bet it felt really good to unleash the beast tonight. :)

From Rachelle on Sat, Sep 22, 2012 at 21:24:02 from 76.8.202.193

Oh and I'm sure that if you improved to a sub-8 pace it was all because of the Dew ice cream. You better quit hiding your secrets!
