AM - 13 miles, up to work. About 7 w/ Andrea. My legs felt really good this morning.

PM - 4.4 miles, down to Sugarhouse.

I'm a little peeved about this whole Canyons-Solitude tram idea. To try and justify it on grounds of reducing traffic in BCC is ridiculous! Nobody in their right mind would drive all the way over to Park City, take two lifts to the top of the Canyons, then a tram to BCC, then another lift or two to the top of Solitude. Best case scenario, you'd be skiing by 11am! The real problem is that this would set a precedent and open the flood gates for other ski areas to expand into Twin Lakes Pass, Grizzly Gulch, and White Pine. Ugh.

i saw this on the news last night -- they were talking with carl fisher from save our canyons and he said this would open the door to creating a huge "mega-resort" that connected all of the ski resorts in the wasatch. i think the tram idea sounds like a big hassle, especially considering the time it would take -- i wouldn't spend my time riding a tram to another resort after paying to ski all day. however, i can see the "touristy" aspect of it -- lots of out-of-towners and more leisurely skiers would probably be all over a tram ride that connected them to another resort. i can also see how this would be a concern for someone like you, as it will certainly encroach on the back-country ski areas. time to picket!

If the Canyons wanted to build a tram to Park City and Deer Valley, I wouldn't even care, because its all private land... but this tram would be built entirely on PUBLIC land, and tarnish these areas for backcountry skiers... not to mention mountain bikers and runners who ride/run the crest trail.

I guess what ticks me off is that they are trying to spin it as "good for the environment" (less cars up BCC)... when in reality the whole concept is just a way to sell more real estate at the canyons.

At least, since the proposal crosses USFS land, there will be lots of mandatory public input sessions, so you can bet Save Our Canyons will fight this to the end!

I agree with you 100%. I'm also pissed that Snowbird wants to build a roller coaster on Mt. Superior. I know they also have White Pine in their sights. I support Save our Canyons and all of their efforts to stop the madness.
