AM - 5 miles.

PM - 6 miles w/ 3 mile MP tempo in 15:54 (5:16, 5:23, 5:15). Tempo loop. Felt a little choppy, but the hamstring didn't hurt as long as I really focused on quick turnover and not overstriding. A fresh pair of shoes is always nice.

Talked to one of the guys I had class with at Purdue. He's shooting for 2:15-2:16. He's not really a marathon guy, and he's a low-66 halfer (from maybe 2 years ago). Ran high 30:xx at Beach to Beacon. Not sure what his marathon training has been like, but I know what non-uber elite Americans run at shorter distances for that kind of marathon goal. He's bib # 38

I've also been checking the weather, since I know you don't fuss too much with that crap. I'm working my magic to make sure it's good.

I see Saucony has toned down the message on the bottom of the shoe. I have a pair, can't remember which one, that I think says "U R LOSING" on one of them. Better not be talking about me, shoe.

Anyway, looking forward to seeing how you do! Try not to drive Andrea too crazy with all your pent up energy this week.

2:15ish is pretty ambitious given his PRs. Chicago is the place to do it though, should be a very deep race. I like that you gave him a 30:XX for 30:59 :-) I appreciate you taking care of the weather for me... just push the rain to Sunday afternoon.

The U R Losing ones still exist. You should see what I write on the bottoms when I'm not trying to be family safe.

PS - Andrea has told me to "STOP SINGING" 3 nights in a row, so I think she's looking forward to me being tired again.

Yes. Agreed. I thought ~2:20-2:22 was more sensible, but what do I know. I always give people their seconds. If you run 2:17:59, I will be more than happy to call you a 2:17 marathoner :-)

I think the "U R Losing" is on my Twitches. It is quite confusing when you don't have the other shoe for comparison as it sounds like the shoe is challenging you (the wearer) rather than the person behind you in the position to be reading them.

You can truncate the seconds on a marathon. That's in the rule book somewhere. But not for a half and anything shorter is just ludicrous. Speaking of which, I hope Ludacris sings the national anthem on Sunday.

Good point. The difference between a 30:0X 10k and 30:5X 10k is quite a gulf.

I vote for him playing the finish line: "The fancy cars, the women, and the caviar. You know who we are. Because we're . . . all over the world"
