AM - 11.5 miles. JAJAF run and then up to work from there. Legs felt decent after yesterday's double dipper (no soreness), but they didn't feel springy. The group opened up a 15 yard gap on me in the first 30 seconds of the run that took me about 3/4 of a mile to close. I don't think anyone noticed I was dragging off the back at the beginning. Whew - that would have been embarrassing!

PM - 7.3 miles home. The first mile was windy, I could smell the salt in the air. Then it started dumping snow. I did not not enjoy this run! My head got very cold.

February totals - 563 miles, 3100 perfect pushups, 670 perfect pullups. Solid month... lots of good workouts. I actually ran slightly more miles per day than January, but the percentage of quality/fast miles went up a lot. Averaged just under 8.5 hours of sleep. Drove my car to work a lot more this month (12 times).

A handful of us are going to do an Emigration Canyon long run on Saturday. We'll meet here (Eastside Elementary School - 3300S and I-215) at 8am sharp, then shuttle up to Mountain Dell Golf Course. The shortest distance back is 16.7 miles (route map). There are a few places we can add on some extra miles for those looking to get 20 miles or so.

Happy Leap Year!

I am going to be in SLC this weekend for a USATF coaching class and staying at Rob's house. I was hoping to maybe hook up for a run in Sugarhouse either Saturday or Sunday early (classes start at 8am at a airport hotel). Saturday appears to be out, maybe Sunday?

95% of weekends I would be down for an early Sunday run - but Andrea & I are actually headed out of SLC for the weekend after the long run on Saturday. Sorry Jeff. They need to start the coaching clinic at 11am so everyone has time to get in their Saturday morning long run in the sunlight!

Now you know how I feel always holding up the tail end of the pack. :)

Let me know if there are any Rachelle paced runners joining you on Saturday and I will jump in.

Walter posted it on facebook - I think there may be a few coming that aren't trying to run 5-something pace down the canyon :-)

Its a good run for getting your quads used to some downhill pounding.

I need a quad pounding. My legs haven't been through that in forever!

jajajajajajajajajajaja NICE!

Obviously you don't want to do too much downhill running, but its really useful to get a few of those kinds of runs into your training if you are running any races that have some downhill - it definitely hardens up the quads. A couple emigration canyon runs were really important in my training for Utah Valley and TOU 1/2 last year.

Awesome month Jake!

Good solid month Jake. Looking forward to Saturdays long run. I will be back of the pack so I can tell Rachelle she won't be the straggler. I need to get some good downhill training in this will be a definite plus.

I'm a little concerned about the condition of that road (on the upper section) if we get more snow/ice today. I'm hoping we can do it, but I'm willing to change the location if the road conditions are too slippery. I don't want to take any chances.

If slow folks are invited, RAD and I will bring up the tail end! See you Saturday morning!
